Meet the Cast: Sailing Siblings

Every so often I will be posting profiles of some of the characters I have created. I do not own any art displayed here, it was simply character inspiration.
Today say hello to Robbie and Sasha Ramsey!

Robbie and Sasha grew up sailing their family boat along the Alolan coast. It wasn’t long before they were able to navigate around the shoreline without adult supervision in the middle of a storm. The two were constantly competing with one another to prove who was the better sailor, but they both could talk for hours on end about their dreams of discovering new regions. In fact, they realized this dream when they first set eyes on Velia almost four years ago.

They were in awe of the massive storm wall that went on for miles. If they were to ever know what was on the other side, they would have to weather the worst and push through it. Rain pelted the siblings and a wild wind chilled them to the bone. The waves tossed them around as if they were a bouncing ball in the hands of a child until their ship gave way and capsized under the thumb of the storm. The force of the storm pulled the sailors under and their vision went black.

Robbie and Sasha woke up coughing and confused. The rain had lightened up and the seas seemed calmer. They found themselves shivering on the shells of two kind Lapras that had pulled them from the currents and were carrying them to the nearest accessible land mass – the Sinnoh region.

With their boat destroyed, the young adults had also lost their main source of income. They worked odd jobs here and there around Pastoria City while they saved up enough money to buy another, higher quality boat. With their new sails they set off for the storm yet again. This time they were strategic about it. Robbie and Sasha lived for months at sea keeping a safe distance away from the storm. They studied the storm diligently, trying to understand it’s patterns and predict its behavior. With their newfound knowledge, they braved the journey yet again.

Three days of harsh winds, raging waves, and piercing rain tested their spirits, but the stubborn siblings persevered with absolute resolution, intelligent planning, and alternating who was at the helm when exhaustion became overwhelming. They broke through the storm and found a curious abnormality. The storms covered miles and miles, engulfing an unfamiliar, barely visible land mass on the horizon. The closer they came to the shore, the more clear it was that the region was uninhabited by people and likely held a plethora of secrets.

It was Sasha who suggested calling the region Velia, an ode to the veil provided by the storms. To this date, Robbie and Sasha have been the only sailors able to successfully traverse the storm. They have happily led every expedition and supply run to the region that they can.
